Lip reduction procedure is considered fairly safe, however, following the procedure the patient will feel very swollen and uncomfortable, the patient may even have trouble eating as the incision is made on the inside of the mouth. Stitches are removed 10 days after the procedure, full recovery time can be anything from 2 weeks to 4 weeks.

There are very few complications and risks that can occur during this procedure as it is not a surgical procedure. Lip reduction results are permanent, however, lip augmentation can still be done after the procedure if patient is not pleased with the results.
Temporary Side Effects
After undergoing the surgery, the patient may feel all or none of these very normal and common side effects:
- Tightness
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Discomfort
Other Possible Side Effects
Like all medical procedures, the risk of complications increases when proper aftercare treatment is not followed. These complications include:

- Numbness (usually temporary)
- Lumps and excess scar tissue in lips
- Dissatisfaction with the cosmetic results
- Pus or leaking at the site of stitches
